Read Win Race is a program designed to help students in grades K-5 have fun while falling in love with reading. Students who enjoy reading get better grades and become more successful adults.
In 2019, more than 700 students from three Billings-area schools participated and approximately 200 completed all 4 levels of the program, reading a total of more than 4,500 hours. The program is patterned after a similar effort in Colorado that is now in its 24th year and has served more than 594,000 students.
Read Win Race encourages a friendly competition among schools with the winning students earning the right to have their principals race each other at a local drag strip.
To introduce the six-week program, real race car drivers visit each school with their race cars. The race cars then serve as a mascot for each school as the competition progresses.
Along the way, students win prizes and learn life skills like sportsmanship, teamwork and persistence.
We have a staff dedicated to improving the reading possibilities of elementary school students.
We are using the excitement of race cars to encourage kids to read!
